FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Where is Playa del Carmen?
Where do we fly into? How do I book my flights?
Playa del Carmen is about 45 minutes from Cancun International Airport (CUN). Shared and private transfers are available. There is a round-trip transfer between airport and hotel included with the group booking.
Flights can be booked either through our travel agent or you can book them on your own. We often use Kayak to research flights for our trip.

Is it safe?
Yes.
Seriously though, most crime occurs in the border towns (Nuevo Laredo, Tijuana...). Tourists in areas like Cancun and Playa are relatively immune to violent crime. That being said, it is always good to be a smart traveler (be aware of your surroundings, don't venture into unknown areas, stay in groups, don't act like an inconsiderate gringo) wherever you go.

How long should I stay?
While it is completely up to you whether or not you want to just come for one day, make a mini-vacation out of it, or make it a complete vacation of your own, we would recommend staying at least 3 nights. That way, you are able to enjoy some time in beautiful Mexico and get your money's worth.
What should I wear to the wedding?
Dude... it's a destination wedding, on a beach, in Mexico. Please leave your tuxedo/ball gown/tiara at home!
The wedding ceremony will take place at a gazebo overlooking the ocean, and the cocktail hour and dinner reception immediately following will take place on the beach (in sand) with a solid, vinyl dance floor. We request that you wear beach chic attire to keep the mood light and relaxed. We recommend against tuxedos and formal evening wear. Sandals are ok for men. Ladies, we advise against tall, skinny heels as this may make walking in the grass and sand difficult. No need to sprain an ankle for fashion.

What other costs will there be?
If you are staying at the wedding resort (The Royal Playa del Carmen), it is all-inclusive including food, drink and alcohol. Additional costs will be needed for things such as spa treatments, motorized water sports, outside excursions, eating/drinking outside of the resort, travel away from the resort, etc.
If you are not staying at either the Royal Playa del Carmen or the Gran Porto Real, then the wedding resort will charge a day pass fee of $150 per person for any events including ceremony and reception.

What happens if there is a hurricane? Jury duty? Injure myself while zip-lining?
We feel that travel insurance is always a good idea when traveling outside the country. We have used Allianz Travel Insurance in the past. If you're a AAA member you may be eligible for a discount. There are plans at multiple price points, some with no-exclusion cancellation riders. Their plans include a benefit for medical stabilization, evacuation, lost luggage, trip delays...
You can also purchase travel insurance through our travel agent, she can help you choose a plan that best suits your needs!
FYI: You should bend your knees as you are zip-lining to avoid breaking your legs, especially when you are coming in for landing.
